This year’s MTV RE:DEFINE event will honor one of the most respected, influential and iconic artists in the contemporary art world, Michael Craig-Martin.

Craig-Martin is the godfather of British contemporary art, he’s influenced the careers of Sarah Lucas, Damien Hirst, David Patterson and Gary Hume, amongst others.

It was Craig-Martin’s time spent teaching at Goldsmiths College in the 1980s, that he played an influential role in the YBA (Young British Artist) movement. Best known for his pop-colored digital portraits and sculptures, his work is held in museum collections around the world, including the Tate London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Coinciding with the MTV RE:DEFINE auction, gala and exhibition, Craig-Martin will be launching his new memoir/instructional guide On Being An Artist. In addition, The Goss-Michael Foundation will work with him and the Gagosian Gallery to present 10 works of art in public spaces in Dallas from the beginning of April through May 2015.
